Protecting Your Future And Your Reputation

When two people have an intimate relationship, domestic charges often involve an act or threatened act of violence between the parties. However, domestic violence charges can also involve any crime committed as a way to coerce, control or punish the other person.

In my Boulder criminal defense practice, this means that I represent people facing a wide range of charges related to domestic violence. The law applies to people who have an intimate relationship. The two parties can be spouses, ex-spouses, co-parents, co-habitants or partners. Each case is different. I tailor the representation I provide to my clients' unique situations, goals and needs.

My work includes the effective resolution of charges, including:

  • Stalking
  • Assault
  • Rape or sexual assault
  • Kidnapping
  • Criminal mischief
  • Trespassing
  • Violation of restraining order or civil protection order

Don't Take These Charges Lightly

Colorado laws take domestic violence very seriously, and charges can result in serious ramifications. People who are accused of domestic violence often face being removed from their homes, prohibited from seeing their children and having their firearms taken away, as well as incarceration.

Because the charges are so serious, I take forceful action to protect my clients' interests. I begin by collecting as much information as possible about the case. I obtain and review all documentation, including a recording of the 911 call, police body camera footage, security camera footage and the police reports. I also interview witnesses to the event and character witnesses.

My thorough approach often gives me insight into the case that can be used to build a strong and effective defense. For example, allegations are often falsified or exaggerated in order to gain leverage in a divorce proceeding or child custody dispute. Alcohol and drugs can also be factors. Treatment for alcoholism or drug addiction can become part of a successful defense strategy.
